A Single Man
I have been fortunate enough to preview the new Tom Ford film 'A Single Man' and as was to be expected it's cinematography was perfect and the costumes, props and aesthetics in general - immaculate. However what took me quite by surprise was how handsome Colin Firth looked! The foppish bumbling English man thing really doesn't do it for me and I hate watching both Hugh Grant and Colin Firth for this reason. However I was pleasantly surprised to see that for once Mr Firth was not playing himself, I was impressed by his performance as a tortured soul and by his sharp appearance! As predicted, the film focussed mainly on the plight of the homosexual male and on themes of loneliness through Firth's character as well as Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hoult. Miss Moore was fantastic as ever, and looked amazing as a flame haired 60s siren, and Nicholas Hoult was surprisingly good in his role as an American sexually curious teenager, dressed memorably in a fluffy marshmallow mohair sweater. The clothes and interiors in the movie all looked so contemporary - the 60s are undoubtedly my favourite fashion era for menswear; the colour palette, the toniks and new fabrics, the winkle pickers and those skinny ties. mmmm I wish all men would dress that way forever! When the film comes out, do let me know what you think!

On Yer Bike
The luxe sportswear thing has been going strong for a few seasons now. In the latest addition to the fusion between high fashion and casual-wear is the return of sexy spandex favourite; The Cycling Short. I loved their sneaky appearance in Sonia Rykiel's SS10 at Paris Fashion Week. Not an item to be taken lightly; I can see it now - young girls paying homage to Mr Motivator all over the British high street! By contrast, I think there is something really chic about a glimpse of black lycra or lace cycling shorts beneath a skater dress or full mini skirt. They may even work like the visually acceptable version of spanx! Why not pair with a slouchy tee, boyfriend blazer and over the knee boots for an up to date look. Go all out and relive the 90s with floral cycling shorts, Doc Martens and a bowler hat for the full on 'Clarissa Explains It All' effect! How brave are you!?

It's Not Fair and I think you're Really Mean
May I start by saying that I am not a Lily Allen fan. She has a habit of wearing clothes that don't suit her and her music grates on my ears. I think for the most part she is classic of today's talentless and gobby youth who got her big break by being the daughter of someone vaguely famous who was equally gobby and talentless. Yet here at LolitaLoves I tell it like it is and whilst I was not enjoying her recent fore into pantless territory (which should be monopolised by Gaga). And I also felt slightly embittered given her recent position as the face of Chanel. But this post is to acknowledge her ever-evolving style. I did quite enjoy her tongue in cheek experimentation at Glasto '09 with purple and bleach blonde wigs. And she has worn some killer jumpsuits recently. In the January 2010 issue of Russian Harper's Bazaar, (photographed by Alan Gelati) I think she looks amazing! Check her out doing 'sexy' and see what you think:
