the eye has to travel
One chilly Saturday when Lol and I were feeling jaded with the London party scene, we took our danced out feet off to one of our favourite spots: The Curzon Mayfair. Armed with cosy snacks of the sweet and salty variety we went to watch one of our beloved fashion documentaries. The Eye has to Travel is the story of Diana Vreeland, my new favourite Grande-Dame of fashion since Grace Coddington. Similar to Grace Coddington, Vreeland had a wonderful creative eye and was responsible for many legendary fashion spreads. An incredibly larger than life character bursting with humor and charm, her interviews were laugh-out-loud funny but also interspersed with incredible original footage and some very famous talking heads. Born in Belle Epoque Paris, she lived through some of the most glamorous stylish eras in all of the worlds most fashion forward cities. She started her career as a columnist at Harper's Bazaar and went on to become editor-in-chief at Vogue. Vreeland reinvented herself as this darling of the fashion crowd and had a huge celebrity following which went from fashion to Hollywood. Full off beautiful imagery and witty one-liners the film is a must see and a reminder of all the fabulous people and trends in past decades!

I got you, ooooo
Baby I got you, ooooo
Until you're used to my face
And my mystery fades
I got you
So baby love me
Before they all love me
Until you won’t love me
Because they all left me
I’ll be different
I think I’ll be different
I hope I’m not different
And I hope you’ll still listen
But until then
Baby I got you
I got you
Girl I still got you
I got you
Baby I got you, ooooo
Until you're used to my face
And my mystery fades
I got you
So baby love me
Before they all love me
Until you won’t love me
Because they all left me
I’ll be different
I think I’ll be different
I hope I’m not different
And I hope you’ll still listen
But until then
Baby I got you
I got you
Girl I still got you
I got you

currently coveting
Before the last little ray of sun escapes me I want to pay homage to summer 2012 with a few dreamy key pieces. So as summer prepares to hibernate for another year after this coming Bank Holiday weekend which always feels like the final hurrah and leaves us to get excited about winter clothes. Here are a few summer-tastic goods I still have my beady little eye on! If money was no object I would snap these babies up in a heartbeat!

simple strappy stilettos
Here is where I talk about my current shoe lust, my obsessive thoughts have for the past 6 months been centred around a simple sexy 2 strap stiletto sandal. The past few years have been all about trophy shoes, statement heels and unwearable, avant garde works of art (a la the late McQueen). As the platform is looking increasingly passee, footwear is taking its inspiration from the simplicity of the 90s with the return of pointy courts and barely there strappy heels which bring the foot back into being the main focus. I should have bought last season's Zara numbers but they were sooo uncomfortable so my quest continues for something like these dream worthy designer morsels without the designer price tag.

Goldie Glow
Check out Goldie's collection for AW13 - the palette is comprised of rust, teal and black. Loose fitting shapes feature surprising flashes of flesh to ensure a sassy look for this Autumn. Burnished copper, marbled material and watercolour prints make for a warm and sexy look, hence the name of the collection: After Glow. Check out a selection of my favourite pieces, shot in the sand dunes of Cape Town below.

fashionable forgiveness
Taylor Swift always seemed a nice girl in full of feminine innocence with her Prairie style. Neither her music, nor personal style are my cup of tea but she always seems a nice girl. This is why my jaw hit the floor with shock, horror and sympathy while watching the Kanye West fiasco at the 2009 VMAs. My huge wave of mortification for her moment being so publicly snatched was counter balanced with Kanye-cringe for the spectacle he made of himself as well as the Beyonce butt-kissing. It was one of those notorious showbiz moment that has become an example of Live TV gold. It can be seen as a cautionary tale that fame + too much alcohol + a platform in a room full of celebs = ego explosion. Kanye mistakenly thought he had the right to play music God deeming the little country girl less worthy/talented than Bey the soul goddess, and was technically sucking up to his best mate's bird. Thus embarrassing himself, falling out of favour with the very star he tried to defend (as if Beyonce 'Independent Woman' Knowles needed his help). In his favour, in many ways I think this was probably the most interesting thing to happen to Taylor Swift's otherwise vanilla career. I'm sure they have since made up (maybe he sent her a weighty gold pendant and some Hennessy in the mail) but nonetheless seeing Swift wear Kanye's KW range in Harper's Bazaar made me smile to myself. This was a smart editorial, PR stunty move - Kanye wants the fashion honchos he so admires to know that the VMA debacle is water under the bridge and relieve his coscience, and Taylor can show she is a classy lady who doesn't hold a grudge.

Our skin like bronze and our hair like cashmere
As we march to the rhythm
On the palace floor
Chandeliers inside the pyramid
Tremble from the force
Cymbals crash inside the pyramid
Voices fill up the halls
Set the cheetahs on the loose
There's a thief out on the move
Underneath our legion's view
They have taken Cleopatra, Cleopatra
The jewel of Africa
What good is a jewel that ain't still precious
How could you run off on me?
How could you run off on us?
You feel like God inside that gold
I found you laying down with Samson
And his full head of hair
Found my black queen Cleopatra
Bad dreams Cleopatra
Remove her
Send the cheetahs to the tomb
Our war is over, our queen has met her doom
No more she lives, no more serpent in her room
No more, it has killed Cleopatra, Cleopatra
Big sun coming strong through the motel blinds
Wake up to your girl for now let's call her Cleopatra,Cleopatra
I watch you fix your hairThen put your panties on in the mirror, Cleopatra
Then your lipstick, Cleopatra
Then your six inch heels
Catch her
She's headed to the pyramid
She's working at the pyramid tonight

Raf Simons for Christian Dior
Raf Simons made his debut collection for Dior this month and rightfully received rave reviews. He took Dior right back to the 50s elegance and simplicity which is at the essence of the label. I love the way he stayed true to the original ethos of Dior as a Franch fashion house whilst steering completely away from the avant-garde style of his disgraced predecessor John Galliano. The collection used strapless bodices and simple silhouettes all reminiscent of 1950s cocktail attire and evening dresses. He used comtemporary accents such as gilt collars and cuffs and minimalist cuts as well as cute peplums to bring the collection up to date. Hair was loose, straight and centre parted so as not to distact from the clothes, and make up featured zingy lime mascara and a scarlett pout. This romantic and sophisticated lady like line is made for the season 2 Betty Draper of 2012.
